Good government, bad government, boring government

David Eads alerted me to a New Yorker article entitled The Big Sleazy, which he passed along with a great quote from Earl Long: "Someday Louisiana is going to get 'good government.' And when they do, they ain't going to like it."

And here's a gem from the New Yorker article: "Long called another special session; as the bills sailed through, one
disgruntled lawmaker demanded to know when legislators would have a
chance to read them. “When they are passed,” Long replied."

Well, it's been almost a century that we've been waiting for 'good government.'  The Long era was obviously corrupt, but at least it was entertaining --albeit in a way that only a cynical anarchist could appreciate.
