We are about to lose New Orleans

The Sunday New York Times op-ed piece begins: "We are about to lose New Orleans. Whether it is a conscious plan to let the city rot until no one is willing to move back or honest paralysis over difficult questions, the moment is upon us when a major American city will die, leaving nothing but a few shells for tourists to visit like a museum."

What a powerful op-ed piece. President Bush is speaking almost daily, trying to rally his sagging public opinion polls by speaking on Iraq. But what about our own citizens, our own city, and the solemn promises made from Jackson Square? For God's sake, let's find a leader to take charge of this -- to rally the nation and get the job done. Maybe it's Colin Powell, or Rudy Giuliani , or maybe even Norman Schwarzkopf. But there has to be someone in 300 million people who can get the job done. Where is this generation's George Marshall?
