Chronologizing dates? Mac Software?

Does anyone know of database software for the Mac that will let you enter descriptions of events and also the dates, and then sort by the dates? In the Windows world I use software called Casemap that does this in a very robust way (it's a law specific application). Unfortunately, it doesn't work on the Mac. I need something really simple and cheap. Perhaps I could do it with Excel, but the fields in Excel aren't really designed for anything more than a very terse description. Anyway, if you have any tips I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
