Hey, let's crash this sucker (it's a Windows machine after all; it's built to crash)

After reading John Dvorak's article entitled Magic Number: 30 Billion (thanks Denise) I realized that crashing computers is just part of the daily ritual.

It hasn't taken me long to notice that Apple is less crash prone than Windows, at least Apple's OS X operating system (I have no experience with other prior operating systems from Apple). But, I'm here to tell you you can in fact crash an Apple computer, which shouldn't come as a surprise.

One bad thing about Apple computers: when they crash they take a long time to reboot. So it's a good thing that they don't crash so often. Today mine crashed, which was unusual but not inconceivable given the load I was putting on it at the time.

People who don't spend much time with computers are less tolerant of crashes, as perhaps they should be. And that reminds me of my law school friend Dave Martin, who was a power drinker of the highest caliber. One night during Mardi Gras a few of us were riding in my friend Steve Copley's old Falcon and one of the girls we were with started projectile vomiting. She immediately started apologizing and obviously was very embarrassed. Dave, never at a loss for what to say, diplomatically assured her that "as a power drinker you are going to have expect this sort of thing."

Let's see, where was I?

Oh, right, drawing a parallel between Windows crashes and projectile vomiting. Well, what more do I need to say? That connection seems fairly obvious, doesn't it?
