You're right about the loss of innocence. Honestly, there's plenty of that in Katrina's aftermath, even for those of us who are not in New Orleans, because we now know that it's all a lie, this illusion we've been tricked into believing that if disaster strikes, rescue will follow. It is obviously just not true.

I grew up on boats. My uncle had a speed boat and my father had a sail boat. I think about sailing all the time, even though it's been years. Your evening sail sounds so lovely.

I saw Williams' broadcast and it was actually excellent. CNN focused on NOLA last night too. It was good to see someone paying some attention. It needed doing.

Nice post.

Hi Ernie,

I'm a fan. I found your blog about four months ago and have been reading it since then. I liked it so much that I listed on my space's blog list, even though I'm fully aware that most folks around the country won't "get it." I'm a NO expat, having left in 88 to take a transfer to Salt Lake City (talk about culcha shock!)
I had to comment because I truly miss sailing on the lake, among other things. Spent many drunken Saturdays at SYC.
Keep givin' them hell.
