Wiretapping with a Nuclear Reactor
If you're interested in the 'how-it's-done" of big league wiretapping then read this article. Here's a brief glimpse into the amazement of this technology: the government has access to a machine that can monitor 37,000 phone calls in real time and 'listen' for key words. So, if you don't want the government to flag your calls for analysis then just don't use the key words. What's so hard about that?
