Very true. I've had several older attorneys in recent cases harangue me about missing metadata in electronic files that I've turned over, after they asked me to convert the files to PDF or some other format that destroys the Word- or Wordperfect-specific metadata. I've even had them ask me "where is the metadata" after I produced *paper* copies of documents. They don't know what it is, but they know it's important and they need it.

Very interesting post. I found this one to be of particular intrigue to myself, being on the verge of starting a paralegal position at the US Justice Department. I am certain that e-Discovery will be on the litany of tasks that I must perform.

It is interesting that so many lawyers I have met are hesitant to embrace the technological revolution that has changed the way we perceive 'value-added'. In the case of MorganStanley, I wonder if the sanctions are a by-product of lawyer negligence, or perhaps a case of pure ignorance. Either way, it should serve as a testament for firms to start considering educating or hiring younger kids with a better idea of how the tech game revolves.
