Thank you so much for this post. I have been needing an alternative to bookmarking for a long time.

Erine,

Google reader is the best. There is also an iPhone app that I use called MobileRSS that autosyncs my G.R. account so I can get it on the go.

Ernie Svenson

Good point Chris! I also use a mobile RSS reader on my iPhone. The one I use is called 'Byline' and it also syncs with Google Reader. NetNewsWire has an iPhone app that also syncs and is supposed to be good. I'm sure that there are one or two others, but those are all the top ones. The key point, which you make, is that having access to your RSS feeds on your phone is powerful. It means that while your standing in a grocery line, or in any place where you suddently find yourself idle, you can quickly catch up on important news. Good stuff! Thanks for the comment.

Google reader has made my life so much easier. I love being referred to new and interesting sites like the ones above. It's like being told about a new band or musician to listen to...

Ernie -- I suspect I'd like just about everything in your google reader. I understand how to dl the opml file but I don't understand how to import it to google reader. I like to think I'm tech-savvy but obviously not so much. Thanks for any advice on this.

Ernie Svenson

Mark:

You just go to the 'settings' area and then the Tab for 'Import/Export' and you upload the OPML file where it says 'upload'. I'm not sure if it overwrites what you already have, so you might want to make a backup first. That option is right there in the same area, so do that first.

Great post. Techmeme is my default filter for all things tech. When they are important, they make Techmeme.

. I keep getting a file not found error whilst trying to download the OPML file.
. Is it still there?
. Thanks.

Ernie Svenson

Tom:

I should have emphasized the OPML file is actually an XML file, so if you right click on it you'll see that as the extension. It's still there.
